From the cultural pages of Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.

From the cultural pages of Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
The writer compares Davidson with Stieg Larsson's "Men who Hate Women" (a big success here en Spain) and says that "The Gargoyle" is better!

That's It for Races This Year

Darn, darn, darn !!! My sciatica/piriformis syndrome was acting up a week ago so I took it easy just doing some upper body stuff.

I felt ALMOST better on Tuesday so I did a 4 mile interval run.

OWWWWW! OWWWWW! OWWWWW!

Now I am sure I will not be able to run again until it is completelyhealed!

Unreachable Fall Goal

I seem to thrive on having an unreachable goal ahead of me. If I get close I am happier with the fact that I drove myself harder and got what I got, than I am disappointed with missing the goal.

So for the Treherne, MB half marathon in September I am planning for a 1:45:00. My training begins this week. As well, I plan to race at 185 lbs which means a drop of 25 lbs before then. So I will be following my tried and true Weight Watchers program which works for me. Although, I will be eating at the top of the range and eating the activity points as well. I have heard that you can improve your time by 2 seconds per mile for each pound of fat lost up to a point, all else being equal.

Here is the picture that I will use as inspiration. It is my Feb. 2006 Wedding Cruise picture. I was at 200 lbs and I'm the guy getting out of the pool. (Thankfully not one of the two sitting on the bench.)

Manitoba Marathon Half Marathon

Well the Manitoba Marathon came and went yesterday and I am happy with my results in the half marathon even though I missed my goal of 1:59:59. A 2:03:47 result bettered my Winnipeg Police Service Half of 2 1/2 months ago by just over 6 minutes. Of course that is "Championchip" time as you can see the clock time above my head. When you think of it that is almost 30 seconds faster per mile! I improved from the 84th percentile in my division to the 57th.

Thank goodness it was cool, overcast, breezy and rainy.

I think I was on pace for my goal until about mile 10 and then I just couldn't keep it up. Maybe the goal was too lofty even though I stuck to my training quite religiously.
And what does it say about me when I just couldn't pass the yard where people were offering beer on Dunkirk Drive. I had to have a taste, meaning a couple of swigs.

Longest Run

Well this weekend was my longest training run for the Manitoba Marathon Half-Marathon . . . Well, actually my longest runever - 15 miles on Saturday!
I ran two miles to meet the Running Room club who ran for a little over 11 miles and then I ran 2 miles back to my car.

WPS Half Marathon 2006 - Half Way

Here I am at just past the half way point in the Winnipeg Police Service Half-Marathon!
If someone said that I would be running in a half-marathon 13 months before I would have told them it was impossible!

And yet I beat my 2:15 goal with a time of 2:09:48 and finished feeling reasonably strong.

April 9, 2006 - One Year Runnning Anniversary !

April 9, 2006 was my One Year Anniversary of Runnning! I celebrated by doing a 9 1/2 mile run, my longest ever. The previous longest was 8 1/2 miles, Tuesday last week.

It was sunny and 10 degress Celsius with a light wind. Perfect actually. I felt great. Mile 7/8 was through the Assiniboine Park. It was encouraging to see everyone else out enjoying Spring.
